List For Recommended Three Month Food Supply (One Person)***

 

 

 Based on suggested amount in "Essentials of Home Production and Storage," a 3 months

 emergency supply of food for one person would consist of the following:

 

    Grains - 75 lbs

    Powdered Milk - 18.75 lbs

    Sugar or Honey - 15 lbs

    Salt - 1.5 lbs

    Fats & Oils - 5 lbs

    Legumes - 15 lbs

 

  A suggested 3 month's supply of food for one person could consist of the following foods:

 

    Three cases of 6 #10 cans - 

                                                    3 cans of Wheat (about 18 lbs)

                                                    3 cans of rice (about 18 lbs

                                                    3 cans of rolled oats or macaroni (about 9 lbs)

                                                    3 cans of popcorn (about 18 lbs)

                                                    3 cans of non-instant non-fat dry milk (about 12 lbs)

                                                    3 cans dry beans (15 lbs)

 

                                                  Also:

 

                                                    3 - 5 lb bags flour

                                                    3 - 5 lb bags sugar

                                                    3 - 32 ounce bottles of oil

 

                                                  ESTIMATED COST: less than $120

 

      * Children's Percentage of adult portion: 0-3 yrs=50%, 4-6 yrs=70%, 7-10 yrs=90%

   * Start using wheat and whole grains in diet regularly to allow digestive system to adapt to increased fiber.

   **It is impractical for most families to store a year's supply of water.  Fourteen gallons per person is a suggested

         minimum reserve.           

  ***Provides approximately 2500 calories per day  

 

    Where facilities and equipment are unavailable for canning these items, purchase the

 equivalent amount and store in a container with a tight fitting lid.
